Why is Fostering Important?

We here at Furballs Furever Rescue rely heavily on foster volunteers to help us save lives. Because we do not have our own facility we can only take in so many animals without having a foster available. When we have more people willing to foster it allows us to save more furballs, and helps the animals adjust to life inside of a loving and caring home. Fostering gives them the adjustment period they need to feel safe and to also experience socialization with new environments and other animals, setting them up for success in the future. It also allows you as the foster parent to see if adoption is the next step for you, and to see how you can prepare yourself for your future furball.

What does Fostering consist of?

Fostering is an amazing and rewarding experience. As a foster, you are responsible for transporting your foster furball to appointments, shot clinics and adoption events. We’ll search for the perfect, responsible, well matched adopter for your foster animal and do everything to set our Furball Kit or Pup up for a successful future with their furever family.
We provide everything for our Orphans including all medical expenses, food, and basic supplies. If this sounds like a life saving service that you can provide to an animal in need, please fill out a Foster Application located here for cats and here for dogs!

  • The fostering process can be anywhere from a short term foster, to a long term foster. It all depends on what foster you receive. The minimum age we place our furballs for adoption is 8 weeks. So, its quite possible you could foster anywhere from 1 week to 8 weeks.

  • Short answer-none! Furballs Furever Rescue's donations department provides starter supplies needed in order to foster. Items such as potty pads, blankets, crate or kennel, toys and first bag of food are always readily available for when you run out. If more food is needed we are able to continue supplying food when donations are available. Since we are 100% donation based, this cannot always be guaranteed. If you have items available from a previous pet, like a crate or kennel, we ask that you use those for your foster so we are able to give the necessary supplies to another foster. In the case you prefer your furball to have different supplies than the ones we provide for you, you are always welcome to purchase your own supplies. It’s only a bonus that fostering related expenses are tax deductible, ask your tax professional for advice! But nothing tops the love and affection of a thankful pup before their fur-ever home.

  • Yes! We love it when our foster parents choose to adopt the furball they foster. We have a program specifically for these circumstances. We do have a 3 foster rule before adoption. If you see a furball who needs a foster and are interested in adopting them as well, Fostering to Adopt is a great way to get to know your future family member!
